NHL Betting: Panthers vs Lightning & Capitals vs Maple Leafs – 04/24/22

Sunday’s betting previews feature a heavyweight matchup between the top-ranked Florida Panthers and the two-time Stanley Cup champions Tampa Bay Lightning, while the Toronto Maple Leafs look to bounce back on the road against the Washington Capitals.

Florida Panthers (-135) vs Tampa Bay Lightning (+115)

The Panthers just squeezed by the Toronto Maple Leafs after coming from behind two goals to win in overtime. With how the Lightning have been playing, this game won’t be an easy task for them either. The Panthers have one last thing to play for in the regular season, and that’s the Presidents’ Trophy. A win against a possible playoff opponent this late in the season could also place some doubt in the minds of the Lightning.

The Panthers have now won 13 games in a row and look unstoppable no matter how many goals the opponents score on them. They have the most dominant offence in the salary cap era and are 34-6-0 at home. The Lightning have played well as of late too, winning four of their last five games and scoring a ton of goals. The goaltenders will not have a fun time in this matchup, so take the over (O6.5, -125) and the Panthers to come out on top.

Washington Capitals (-115) vs Toronto Maple Leafs (-105)

Both the Capitals and the Maple Leafs are playing well lately and the Maple Leafs just welcomed back Auston Matthews after missing some games. He is still in search of goal number 60 and is two from that mark. Unfortunately, they just lost Michael Bunting to injury, so that dominant top line is once again incomplete. The Capitals are still trying to climb out of the final wild card spot, while the Maple Leafs are pretty secure in second place in their division.

The season series between these two squads has gone 2-0 in favour of the Maple Leafs by scores of 5-3 and 7-3. Both games have taken place within the past two months, so it is a better judgement of how the outcome will play out this time. The Maple Leafs are looking to bounce back from consecutive losses to the Lightning and Panthers and haven’t lost three in a row since late February. The Capitals are coming off a shutout performance against the NHL’s worst team, the Arizona Coyotes.

This will be a much more difficult task. Take the Maple Leafs to bounce back on the road against a Capitals team that struggles at home. Also consider the over (O7, -115) since these teams have been scoring a ton and each has a 50-goal scorer on their roster.
