MLB Betting: Pirates vs Rockies & Diamondbacks vs Padres – 07/15/2022

There are a couple of very good games for bettors going on out west on Friday. The Colorado Rockies host the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Arizona Diamondbacks take on the San Diego Padres. This betting guide will give some insight into the best plays from those two games, based on recent trends between the teams.

Pittsburgh Pirates (+120) vs Colorado Rockies (-145)

Pittsburgh took two of the first three meetings this season, but Colorado is on a nice little surge here. The Rockies have won three in a row and four of their last five. Colorado starter German Marquez has gotten dinged around lately, posting an ERA of 6.06 over his last three starts. Pittsburgh starter Jose Quintana has been a little better, with a 3.52 ERA over his last three outings. This is close, but the Rockies are playing better. Lean towards Colorado (-145) in this one.

Marquez has been giving up a lot of runs lately, even with seven solid innings in his last outing, but he’s struggled to stay consistent at home. His ERA is 7.17 at Coors Field, and that’s with a 1.68 WHIP (walks + hits per inning pitched). Quintana’s ERA on the road (4.41) is almost a run higher than his overall ERA (3.59) this season. Expect some runs to be scored in Colorado today, and take the over (O11, -105) in Friday’s contest.

Arizona Diamondbacks (+155) vs San Diego Padres (-190)

This is a pretty solid pitching matchup with Arizona’s Madison Bumgarner taking on San Diego’s Yu Darvish. This is the 10th meeting between the teams this season, and the Padres have won seven of the first nine. Bumgarner has been on the receiving end of two of those losses, including their last game – a 4-0 Padres win on June 29. Arizona has also gone 7-20 in the last 27 games between these teams in San Diego. Take the Padres (-190) here.

Both pitchers have been good, but Bumgarner’s been a little rocky on the road, going 1-5 with a 4.38 ERA and 1.38 WHIP away from home. The over is also 3-1-1 in his last five starts. The total has also gone over in two of Darvish’s last three starts, and two of the last three meetings between these clubs. Take the over (O7.5, +100) again today.
