NHL Betting: Oilers vs Kings First Round Game 2 – 05/04/22

The first-round matchup between the Edmonton Oilers and the Los Angeles Kings heads into Game 2 with the Kings holding the 1-0 series lead. Get all the betting tips for the game here covering the moneyline, over/under, and game props.

Edmonton Oilers (-200) vs Los Angeles Kings (+165)

After coming from behind twice in Game 1, the Oilers eventually fell short by a goal late in the third period. There wasn’t enough time to come from behind for a third time. This game should start differently as the Oilers will come out playing harder and battle to get the first goal of the game.

The Kings’ second line was dominant again and the Kings outscored the Oilers 4-1 at even strength. The Oilers’ special teams were very good though and kept them in the game, going 2-for-4 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. In the end, the Kings had the better goaltending, which won them the game despite the Oilers outshooting them. It is seemingly a must-win game for the Oilers at home and they will be looking to right the ship and even the series before heading to Los Angeles. Take the Oilers in Game 2.

Over/Under

Mike Smith said you have to move on and get over it while addressing the media after his blunder that cost the Oilers the game-winning goal. He will have to bounce back in goal so his playoff losing streak doesn’t reach 11 games. He has been excellent down the stretch, so he will somehow have to find that form again and shake the playoff cobwebs off.

Jonathan Quick, on the other hand, looks like his playoff self and kept the Kings in the game, stopping a number of great chances. There’s no reason to think he won’t be just as fired up for Game 2 and deliver a similar performance. I expect this to be a tighter-checking game with better defence all around, so take the under (U6.5, -120).

Game Props

I said the Oilers were going to come out hard after how Game 1 ended, so the first period should be the most high-paced. That being said, you should take a gamble on multiple bets in favour of the Oilers in the first period, including the Oilers leading by one goal by the end of the first (+300) and the team that scores first wins the game (-238), which we’re betting the Oilers are that team.

Not only will the Oilers score first, but they will also be the first team to reach two goals in the game this time around (-172), while the special teams will tighten up even more. The Oilers’ penalty kill should remain dominant, but the Kings will be better at defending the Oilers’ power play in Game 2 as it is likely the penalties in the match will decrease from eight in the first game. Take the under on the total power-play goals (U1.5, -164).
