NHL Betting: Islanders vs Capitals – Moneyline, Over/Under, Props – 04/28/22

In today’s betting guide, we cover everything about the New York Islanders vs Washington Capitals game, including who to choose between in the match, the over/under, and a couple of player props.

New York Islanders (+110) vs Washington Capitals (-135)

NYI: 36-34-10, 2.75 GF/GP, 2.80 GA/GP, L10: 3-6-1

WSH: 44-24-12, 3.34 GF.GP, 2.93 GA/GP, L10: 6-2-2

With two games remaining and the opportunity to pass the Pittsburgh Penguins and take the third spot in the division, the Capitals should relish the chance to play anyone other than the Florida Panthers in the first round. They are without Alex Ovechkin for the final two regular-season games and maybe the start of the playoffs, so it may affect the outcome of the game once again.

The Capitals dropped the previous game they played against the Islanders just two nights ago when Ovechkin was out of the lineup. The Capitals are still a dangerous team without him and have weapons throughout the lineup, but they have now lost two in a row and three of four after just finishing a 6-1-0 stretch.

The Islanders snapped their five-game losing streak in that previous win over the Capitals and will once again try and best the Capitals in an attempt to keep them from gaining better seeding in the playoffs. Last game, Ilya Samsonov got the start, so Vitek Vanecek should get the net in this one in what should be a better effort by the Capitals and a more satisfying outcome. Take the Capitals to bounce back and the game to hit the under (U5.5, +100) once again.

Player Props

Noah Dobson – Points (Over 0.5, -117)

Noah Dobson has broken out in a big way for the Islanders this season and is third on the team in points in his second full season worth of games. He sits at 13 goals and 48 points in 78 games and has really embraced his role as a point producer from the back-end with Nick Leddy gone and Ryan Pulock missing time.

Dobson has also made the power play more effective since he has 20 power-play points this season as well. He may have started slower with four assists in his first 16 games, but he tends to add points in bunches, and right now he is hot with three goals and seven points in his past seven games. Against a Capitals team with a little less confidence since losing their captain, take Dobson to find the scoresheet in some capacity tonight.

John Carlson – Assists (Over 0.5, +100)

John Carlson has been a steady hand on the blue line for the Capitals all season once again and has picked up 54 assists in 76 games. He has been consistent in getting on the scoresheet as an assist man even though he has only tallied one in the past four games. Before that, he had a seven-game assist streak that saw him produce nine assists. That’s how hot he can get and he will be looking to ramp things up for the playoffs even without Ovechkin in the lineup.

Carlson is due for a few more points in his final game to set a new career record. He is tied right now in points from his 2018-19 season and should be able to take advantage of a struggling Islanders team despite their previous win over the Capitals.
