Fantasy Corner: Weekend Goalie Streamers – Thompson, Mrazek, Elliott – March 26 & 27, 2022

There are quite a few back-to-back situations across the league over the weekend, so finding a streamable goaltender shouldn’t be an issue for fantasy managers. Keep in mind that it’s a good idea to try and get ahead of your opponents by adding the goaltender before their game considering the likelihood of them playing if their team has a two-game set this weekend.

Logan Thompson – Vegas Golden Knights – 9% Rostered

The Golden Knights goaltending situation has been a carousel since Robin Lehner’s injury issues and has caused the team to spiral out of a playoff spot. Matters got even worse when Laurent Brossoit also did not dress in the team’s game against the Nashville Predators on March 24, 2022. Rookie goaltender Logan Thompson, who struggled when he was recalled, looks to be much more comfortable in the crease of late and is piling up wins.

Since being pulled in a loss on March 15, Thompson started five straight games for Vegas, going 3-2-0 giving him a 4-4-0 record on the season and a .919 save percentage. He will get the Chicago Blackhawks in the next game and the team will be forced to play Thompson if they have any chance of making the postseason as long as their other two netminders are sidelined. It’s his net until further notice and he can also be used as more than just a streamer considering there is no timetable set for Lehner or Broissoits returns.

Petr Mrazek – Toronto Maple Leafs – 41% Rostered

It’s been quite the week for Petr Mrazek, who has struggled mightily in his last few starts, prompting the Leafs to put him on waivers prior to the trade deadline. After going unclaimed, Mrazek made his first start since taking a loss at the Heritage Classic back on March 13. Mrazek got the nod and the 3-2 victory against the New Jersey Devils, allowing two goals on 22 shots.

With Jack Campbell still sidelined and a back-to-back set against the Montreal Canadiens and Florida Panthers on the schedule this weekend, Mrazek should be almost guaranteed to get another start. Hopefully being waived and going unclaimed served as a wake-up call for the veteran back stopper and he can emerge again as the Leafs’ best option in goal. Although we don’t know which goalie will start in which game this weekend, Mrazek has the upside to take over as a starter if he can return to form.

Brian Elliott – Tampa Bay Lightning – 5% Rostered

The veteran goaltender has not played a game since suffering a 4-1 loss against the Edmonton Oilers when he allowed three goals on 48 shots. Despite taking the loss, it was not on Elliott, who did not get any goal support and faced a ton of rubber. In his previous two starts, he posted .938 and .957 save percentages and has a 6-3-2 record in 11 starts this season.

The Lightning have a back-to-back this weekend against the Detroit Red Wings and New York Islanders, which are two pretty good matchups for goaltenders on paper, considering their opponents’ places in the standings. Elliott will garner the start in one of these two games, and with the Atlantic Division playoff race gaining steam, the Lightning should pull out all the stops to get wins.
