Los Angeles Kings (-145) vs Edmonton Oilers (+120)

Series: EDM 1-1 LA

In Game 2, the Oilers broke through in the second period and finished off the Kings by a score of 6-0. This was complete domination of the Kings by Edmonton and a very different game than the first where Los Angeles won. The third game of this series heads to Los Angeles where the Oilers may still have the advantage. The Oilers won 21 games on the road this season, while the Kings won 21 at home. The Oilers won the matchups in Los Angeles by scores of 5-2 and 3-2.

The momentum is in Edmonton’s favour after stomping the Kings, but the Kings will come back hard after being embarrassed by the most lopsided game in the 2022 Playoffs thus far. The offence has been there for the Oilers after scoring just eight goals in last season’s playoffs, and with all lines going and contributing, it doesn’t look good for Jonathan Quick and the Kings as he tries to keep them in games. Take the Oilers in Game 3 to take control of the series.

Over/Under

Mike Smith bounced back nicely for the Oilers, breaking his losing streak that dated back 10 games and the Oilers’ losing streak that started in Game 3 of the bubble vs the Chicago Blackhawks. The Oilers did so while making a statement on the series. The top line took over and the special teams once again were a huge factor in the game.

The Oilers broke through on Quick after he stole Game 1 for the Kings. He will need both goal support and better defence by the Kings in order to get back on track. Game 3 has a tighter contested feel to it and I can see both teams tightening up. The Oilers did so last game and should roll that strategy into this game. But the Kings will be looking to do whatever they can to give their goaltender some help. Take the under (U6.5, -120) in Game 3.

Game Props

As this game should be a lot closer than Game 2 and look more like Game 1, a good bet would be to see the teams tied after the first period (+175), whether the score is 0-0 or 1-1. Since Game 3 is expected to be a tight one, there will probably be an empty-net goal. Since we have the Oilers winning the game, it should come from them, thus seeing them win the third period (+125). But to get to that point, the Oilers are going to take the second period (+140) from the Kings as they’ve done in both games of this first-round matchup. The Oilers have outscored the Kings 5-1 in the second period in two games, so it is a good bet to say it will happen again.
