NHL Betting: Hurricanes vs Bruins First Round Game 4 – 05/08/2022

The Boston Bruins showed some life, and showed the Carolina Hurricanes that they aren’t going to get pushed around anymore. There’s still plenty of series left, and this betting guide will offer some insight to some of the favorable betting lines for the pivotal Game 4 between these two teams.

Carolina Hurricanes (+105) vs Boston Bruins (-130)

The Hurricanes had some of the most favorable moneylines of the postseason through the first three games, but Boston finally proved that Carolina wasn’t an automatic payday against them. The Game 4 result was the first Bruins win in six tries this season, and a big chunk of that has to do with goaltending. Jeremy Swayman was much better for Boston, and Canes rookie Pyotr Kochetkov looked a bit overwhelmed. As long as Kochetkov’s in the net, the Hurricanes aren’t the same team, and make the Bruins (-130) the best moneyline option here.

The four goals the Bruins scored in Game 3 matched their total in the previous five games against Carolilna combined. The total for Game 4 remains at 5.5, but the odds are starting to lean higher. Boston has woken up, and the total doesn’t have to rely solely on the Canes anymore. The over (O5.5, -125) is still the best play here, especially if Kochetkov is between the pipes for Carolina.

Props

David Pastrnak Shots (Over 3.5, -166)

It was bound to happen sooner or later, and Boston star David Pastrnak finally put his stamp on this series in Game 4. He scored a goal and an assist, and his power-play goal late in the second period proved to be the game-winner. He’s also logged at least 17:27 of ice time in every game, and had two showings of 20-plus minutes against the Canes in the regular season. That means lots of opportunities for him to get shots.

The odds for him to go over are kind of heavy (-166), but barring injury, he should hit it. Pastrnak has had at least five shots on goal in every game of this series, and should feature heavily in the Boston attack in this on. They’re only down a game, but this is a vital game for the Bruins if they want to stay alive. Dropping this one with two games left in Carolina would be devastating. Pastrnak should be heavily involved.

Vincent Trocheck Points (Over 0.5, +100)

Vincent Trocheck has arguably been the best player of the postseason for the Hurricanes, even when the offense struggled in Game 3. Trocheck has at least a point in every game of the series, totaling two goals and two assists. The Bruins haven’t had an answer for Trocheck’s line, no matter who has been in goal, and getting even money (+100) for him to keep scoring points is a great value play.

The Canes have controlled the series against the Bruins, up until Game 3. With their third goaltender in the mix, the offense will have to find another guy. Good thing for Carolina, these guys can do it. Expect Trocheck’s line to continue putting on the pressure. They’ve scored a goal in every game of the series, and can be trusted to create the chances that can generate points.
