MLS Betting: Montreal vs Austin & Chicago vs D.C. – 06/18/22

In MLS action, 20 teams are in action for a busy Saturday evening. The Montreal Impact host Austin FC at Stade Saputo for their first of three games this month after going 3-2-0 in May. Meanwhile, the Chicago Fire hope to put a winless May behind them as they take on 13th-seeded D.C. United.

Moneyline: Montreal @ -106

Montreal’s month of May started on the right foot with two consecutive wins, but a pair of 2-1 defeats to Nashville and Salt Lake soured their record. The Impact ended the month with a close 4-3 win over Cincinnati in front of their home crowd, placing them in a tie with New York for third place in the Eastern Conference. Austin didn’t have the same luck, capturing four points in five games and dropping one point behind Dallas and Salt Lake. The Western Conference becomes even more suffocating, with Nashville and LA trailing behind them by a single point.

In his last five games, Djordje Mihailovic recorded three goals, bumping him to seven on the season. He’s been on an absolute tear as of late, landing 14 shots on target out of 22 and scoring on half of them. Kei Kamara’s goal against Nashville places him in fourth in all-time MLS scoring. Sebastian Driussi will need to continue doing it all for Austin. He has eight goals tallied in 14 games this season. Only half his shots are hitting the target, but half of those that do are going in. Montreal is the favourite for tonight’s game, which comes as a surprise to nobody. Take them and go with the over for total goals (O2.5, -188).

Anytime Goal Scorer: Djordje Mihailovic (+162)

In the last year and a half, Mihailovic has been on an absolute tear. With 11 goals and 20 assists in 48 games, he’s quickly become one of Montreal’s best players. A legitimate candidate for the Landon Donovan Award as the MLS MVP, he’s someone Austin will be required to keep an eye on at all times. The 23-year-old has all the signs of a great player in the making and could even earn a spot on this year’s World Cup team for the United States.

As mentioned earlier, his seven goals lead the Impact and last month was a true awakening for the young midfielder. His goal-scoring ability elevated the team to a 3-2-0 record and bumped them to third in the Eastern Conference. He’ll be relied upon, along with the resurgence of Kamara and Romell Quioto, to lead Montreal to victory once again. He’s a solid bet to score one tonight against a struggling Austin club.

Moneyline: D.C. United @ +290

The last time these two teams met, Chicago downed D.C. 2-0 on March 12, ending a three-game winless streak against the club. Dating back to 2014, the two clubs met 20 times, and Chicago has won just four of them. They’ve struggled as of late, going winless in their last ten games and closing in on one of the team’s worse streaks in franchise history. D.C. has also struggled, going 1-2-2 in May, and with only two matches this month, they can’t afford to lose out on any more points. Take them to squeak a close win and take the under (U2.5, +107).
