MLB Betting: Yankees vs Twins & Red Sox vs Angels – 06/09/2022

There’s plenty of Major League Baseball action on Thursday, but a couple of the league’s premier stars will be taking the mound in the American League. Gerrit Cole starts for the New York Yankees against the Minnesota Twins, and reigning AL Most Valuable Player Shohei Ohtani starts for the struggling Los Angeles Angles against the Boston Red Sox. This betting guide gives some of the best value plays for those games.

New York Yankees (-200) vs Minnesota Twins (+170)

The Yankees were rocking before falling to the Twins on Wednesday, as the loss snapped a seven-game winning streak. The pitching matchup in this one points to another win for New York. Gerrit Cole has been electric once again for the Yankees, sporting a 5-1 record with a 2.78 ERA. Twins starter Dylan Bundy has been going in the opposite direction. The Twins have lost his last six starts, and he was awful in his last start. Cole has also dominated the Twins in his career. With a steep money line (-200), take a look at the New York run line (-1.5, -125) in this one.

Cole has allowed just two earned runs in 19 career innings pitched against the Twins. He’s also allowed just three runs or fewer in all but one of his starts this season. However, the wild card here is Bundy. Going up against the Yankees bats, this could be a monster game for New York. Bundy has given up at least one homer in five of his last six starts, and the Yankees love the long ball. This number is a bit high for a Cole start, but the Yankees should crush Bundy. Lean towards the over (O8.5, -110).

Boston Red Sox (+105) vs Los Angeles Angels (-125)

The Angels can’t catch a break. Even after firing manager Joe Maddon earlier this week, their losing streak reached 14 games on Friday. The Red Sox are the complete opposite, winning seven straight. It’s going to be tough once again for L.A., with Nick Pivetta starting for the Red Sox. Pivetta has won his last five starts. The Angels are favored in this one, and that’s likely because Shohei Ohtani is starting, but he’s been bad lately, too. The value here is with the Red Sox (+105).

The pitching has been great for the Red Sox during their winning streak. They’ve recorded three shutouts and have allowed more than two runs just once. Ohtani has given up 11 runs over his last two starts, and the under has hit only once during Pivetta’s winning streak. Expect the Red Sox to continue to give Pivetta run support, and take the over in this one (O7.5, -115).
