MLB Betting: Yankees vs Red Sox & Astros vs Athletics – 07/10/2022

There is a full slate of games in Major League Baseball on Sunday, and there are a pair of great contests featuring divisional rivals. The Boston Red Sox host their main rival in the New York Yankees, and the Houston Astros face the Oakland A’s. This betting guide will examine recent trends to offer the best value plays for both games.

New York Yankees (-135) vs Boston Red Sox (+110)

The Red Sox came from behind to win in impressive fashion on Saturday, and it was just their second win in six tries against New York this season. Yankees starter Jameson Taillon is going for his 10th victory of the season, but he’s really been struggling lately with a 7.88 ERA and 1.56 WHIP (walks+hits per inning pitched) in his last three starts. However, the Yankees haven’t dropped back-to-back starts with Taillon on the mound, so lean towards the Yankees (-135) to bounce back.

Boston starter Nick Pivetta has also been shaky lately, giving up 11 runs and 22 hits over his last 18.2 innings pitched. The total has gone over in Pivetta’s last five starts against a divisional opponent, and in New York’s last five against the American League East. The over has hit in New York’s last five games, and in the last three for Boston. Take the over (O9.5, +100) again here.

Houston Astros (-190) vs Oakland A’s (+155)

Oakland starter Cole Irvin has been awesome at home, posting a 1.49 ERA and 0.99 WHIP over 42.1 innings pitched. He’s also been pretty sharp lately, pitching into the seventh inning in three of his last four starts. Houston had won four in a row against the A’s this season until the 3-2 Oakland victory on Saturday. Houston starter Jake Odorizzi got dinged up a bit in his last start, so lean towards the Athletics (+155) in this one.

The total has gone under in each of Irvin’s last four starts, and in four of his last five. The under is also 5-2 in tin the last five meetings between these teams in Oakland. The Astros have had struggle getting bunches of runs against left-handed starters this season, as the under is 15-5-1 in the Astros’ last 21 games against a lefty. Take the under (U8, +100) here once again.
