MLB Betting: Yankees vs Rays & Cardinals vs Brewers – 06/20/22

In today’s MLB betting guide, the New York Yankees begin another three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays as they take a trip to Florida in hopes of improving on their 15-2 record this month. Meanwhile, the St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers clash in a four-game series in Milwaukee to determine who reigns supreme in the NL Central.

New York Yankees (-130) vs Tampa Bay Rays (+110)

The Yankees can become the first team in the MLB to hit 50 wins this season if they can put the Rays away. They convincingly won the last three-game series and have taken five of the six encounters thus far. Gerrit Cole is the starter for today and is 6-1 on the season in 13 starts. He’s having a fantastic season, posting an ERA (earned run average) of 3.33, and has struck out 54 batters in his last seven starts. It helps to have the backing of the best team in baseball, but Cole’s pitching is a big reason why the Yankees are the only team to allow under 200 runs on the year.

The Rays are in good contention to keep pace with the Toronto Blue Jays for the second spot in the division. They’re only two games back of the Canadian club and could swing back into it with a few upsets against the Yankees. They’ll rely on the pitching services of Shane McClanahan, who has been phenomenal as of late. He’s 7-3 in 13 starts, holds an impressive ERA of 1.33, and has struck out 105 batters in 78.1 innings pitched. He’s 5-1 in his last seven, and he’ll need to come up big and take down a Yankees club that can crush a team’s spirit with their offense.

St. Louis Cardinals (+140) vs Milwaukee Brewers (-160)

The Cardinals aim for a bounce-back week after going 6-4 in their last ten games. They won three of four against the Pittsburgh Pirates but struggled against the Boston Red Sox. They’ll battle for control over the NL Central Division as the Brewers hold the same record and possession of the first seed. Miles Mikolas will take the mound for St. Louis and is 5-4 on the year in 13 starts. His ERA is down significantly from a career 3.69 to 2.62 this season, but he’s struggled as of late with a 3-3 record in his last seven. The Cardinals will need to improve on defense if they hope to take down a Brewers team that matches up quite well against them.

Corbin Burnes has been on a tear in his last seven games, earning 50 strikeouts in 40 innings pitched while allowing 35 hits. The team, as a whole, has played exponentially better as of late, winning four of their last five, including the current three-game winning streak they’re on. Hunter Renfroe sealed the sweep against the Cincinnati Reds with a deep home run on Father’s Day after losing his dad to cancer last August. Riding high on the emotions and momentum should bode well for a red-hot Brewers club.
