MLB Betting: Twins vs Rangers & Guardians vs Royals – 07/08/2022

All 30 teams are in action in the Major Leagues on Friday, and there are a couple of great games for bettors in the American League. The Minnesota Twins face the Texas Rangers, and the Cleveland Guardians take on the Kansas City Royals. This betting guide gives some of the top value plays for those two games based on the trends going on between these teams.

Minnesota Twins (-115) vs Texas Rangers (-105)

This is the battle of the Grays, as Sonny Gray takes the hill for the Twins and Jon Gray gets the start for the Rangers. Sonny Gray has been great on the road for Minnesota this season, going 2-1 with a 1.83 ERA and 0.75 WHIP (walks+hits per inning pitched) away from Target Field. He’s also been good since returning from the injured list. The Twins have also won the last seven meetings between these teams in Texas, so take Minnesota (-115) in this one.

This is the first series between these teams this season, but the Twins have generally gone under against the American League West in recent years. The total has gone under in 19 of Minnesota’s last 26 games against the AL West, and it’s also gone under in four of the last five meetings between these teams. Texas has also gone under in Jon Gray’s last four starts against a team with a winning record, so the under looks like a decent play here (U8, -115).

Cleveland Guardians (-115) vs Kansas City Royals (-105)

Things have been rough for Cleveland starter Aaron Civale. He’s 0-2 in his last three starts, including a 6-1 loss in his last outing. In those last three games, Civale has an ERA of 5.40 and a WHIP of 1.60. On the road this season, he’s allowed 24 runs in 20 innings pitched for a 9.90 ERA and a WHIP of 1.90. The Royals have looked a little better, going 4-4 over their last eight, while Cleveland has lost four in a row. This is a close call but lean towards the Royals (-115).

The total has gone over in four of Kansas City’s last five games, and in each of Cleveland’s last five road games. Runs will always be scored when Civale starts, as the over is 8-2 in his 10 outings this season. The over has also landed in seven of Royals starter Brady Singer’s last eight starts. This is likely going to be another high-scoring affair, especially if the bullpens get involved. Take the over (O8.5, -115).
