MLB Betting: Reds vs Rays & Red Sox vs Yankees – 07/08/22

In today’s MLB betting guide, the Tampa Bay Rays look to continue rolling against the Cincinnati Reds, while the New York Yankees try to extend the Boston Red Sox’s losing streak.

Cincinnati Reds (+145) vs Tampa Bay Rays (-175)

The Rays are not favoured enough for who they have on the mound in tonight’s matchup. Shane McClanahan may very well be the best pitcher in baseball right now and hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs against in a start since April 30. He’s given up four earned runs in the past five starts (34 innings) and struck out 44 batters. What he’s been doing this season is incredible and something you’d be taking a huge risk on betting against, especially for the Reds.

The Reds haven’t shown that they can hit the ball lately, and despite coming into today riding a win from the second game of a back-to-back against the Pittsburgh Pirates yesterday, they are 3-7 in their past 10 and a horrible 15-28 at home. They have Luis Castillo on the mound for them and he’s had two great starts in a row after two less-than-ideal ones. Tampa Bay doesn’t have a ton of offensive producers and they’re generally cold with the bats, but Isaac Paredes and Randy Arozarena should be able to provide something. The Rays have won two games in a row and should make it three, so go ahead and take them and the under (U7.5, -105).

Boston Red Sox (+125) vs New York Yankees (-150)

The way the Yankees are this season and how the Red Sox have played recently, these odds are in our favour to bet on the Yankees. They beat the Red Sox in their series opener and have now won two in a row and are 7-3 in their past 10. This is while the Red Sox extended their losing streak to three games and are 3-7 in their previous 10 games. The Yankees just hit the 60-win mark and aren’t going to be slowed down now.

Everything seems to favour the Yankees right now, including the pitching matchup that features Nestor Cortes of New York and Connor Seabold of the Red Sox. Cortes has been very good this season and bounced back in his previous game after two shaky starts. As for Seabold, he somewhat bounced back after his first start where he allowed seven runs in 4.2 innings. He will still require more time to be able to go deep into games, even with a strong start, so the Yankees should get their look at a number of different relievers tonight and be able to do some damage. As per usual with them, they are driving in the home runs and scoring lots of runs each game. Take the Yankees and the over (O9.5, -110).
