MLB Betting: Rays vs Yankees & Rangers vs Tigers – 06/16/2022

There are only nine games on the slate in the Major Leagues on Thursday, but there is still plenty for bettors to take advantage of. The Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees close out what has been a great series. The Texas Rangers head to Detroit for the first of four games against the Tigers. This betting guide will give some insight into the best plays in those two games.

Tampa Bay Rays (+140) vs New York Yankees (-160)

New York has won four of six against the Rays this season, including the first two games of this series. Yankees starter Luis Severino is 8-3 in 11 career starts against the Rays with a 3.33 ERA and 94 strikeouts over 73 innings pitched. Expect him to continue his dominance against a Rays team that has been wildly inconsistent lately. Take the Yankees (-160) to win their seventh straight.

The total has gone under in all but one of the six contests between these teams this season. The lone outlier was yesterday’s game where the Yankees won 4-3 to clear the ridiculously low total of 6.5. The total is pretty low again, and this could be another low-scoring game between the teams. It’s best probably to stay away from the total in this one but lean towards the under (U7.5, -105).

Texas Rangers (-125) vs Detroit Tigers (+110)

Texas starter Martin Perez has been stellar this season. Even after getting rocked in his last start, Perez still boasts a 2.18 ERA and 1.10 WHIP (walks + hits per inning pitched). He’s been even better away from home this season. On the road, he has an ERA of 1.85 and has 24 strikeouts in 34 innings pitched. The Tigers are struggling to score runs, having scored just 10 in their last six games. This looks like a good spot to stick with the Rangers to win (-125).

The total has gone under in seven of the last 10 meetings between these two teams in Detroit. The under has also hit in seven of Perez’s last 10 starts and in three of the last four outings for Tigers starter Beau Brieske. After a rough start to the season, Brieske has been pretty good lately. This looks like a decent spot to play the under (U8.5, -110) between two teams having trouble piling up runs.
