MLB Betting: Rangers vs Tigers & Angels vs Mariners – 06/17/2022

It’s a big day for games in the American League. The Los Angeles Angels and Seattle Mariners continue their AL West series, and the Texas Rangers look to take another game in Detroit against the Tigers. The betting guide will give some insight into the best value plays for that pair of games.

Texas Rangers (+105) vs Detroit Tigers (-125)

Starter Jon Gray’s first season in Texas has been marked by inconsistency, but he’s steadily been bad on the road. Away from home, he’s 0-3 with a 5.26 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP (walks + hits per inning pitched). He’s facing Tarik Skubal, who has been very good for the Tigers this season. Skubal got touched up a bit in his last start against the high-powered Toronto Blue Jays, but this looks like a good spot to bounce back here. Take the Tigers (-125) to even up the series.

The under is 7-1-1 in Skubal’s last nine starts and is 3-0-1 in his last four home starts. However, Gray is the variable in this one and might be too rocky to trust here. He’s still trying to figure out how to pitch on the road this season and hasn’t put together two good starts together consecutively. Until he does that, take the over (O8, -110).

Los Angeles Angels (+110) vs Seattle Mariners (-135)

Last year’s Cy Young award winner Robbie Ray got off to a shaky start with Seattle but was stellar in his last start, pitching seven scoreless innings against the Boston Red Sox. Ray’s also been better at home, sporting a 3.13 ERA with 38 strikeouts in 37.1 innings pitched. The Angels have been pretty erratic lately, and starter Michael Lorenzen has been equally inconsistent. Los Angeles has dropped two of his last three starts and his ERA is 4.34 in those games. Take Seattle (-135) in this one.

The over has hit in eight of Lorenzen’s last nine starts for Los Angeles, and in seven of the last 10 between these two teams. Yesterday’s game was pretty low scoring, and both of these teams have struggled a bit to score runs lately. However, this is a low total for today’s game between a couple of inconsistent starters. Take the over (O7.5, -120) for Friday’s contest.
