MLB Betting: Pirates vs Braves & Reds vs Cardinals – 06/10/2022

Fifteen games fill up the schedule in Major League Baseball today. The Atlanta Braves are looking to continue their eight-game winning streak, taking on the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals face each other, both trying to end losing streaks. This betting guide will give some of the top value picks for those two games based on recent trends between the teams.

Pittsburgh Pirates (+185) vs Atlanta Braves (-225)

Roansy Contreras starts for the Pirates, and he’s been solid since moving to the rotation. He’s allowed just two runs over his three starts, sporting a 1.15 ERA in those outings. Spencer Strider is getting just his third start for Atlanta, and that means the bullpen is getting a workout. Strider has just 8.1 innings pitched in his only two starts for the Braves. This pitching matchup is closer than the line would suggest. The best value might be in the Pittsburgh run line (+1.5, -110).

Eight runs have been scored in both of Strider’s starts this season, and that’s exactly what the total is set at on Friday. The under has hit in all three of Contreras’ starts this season and in four of Pittsburgh’s last five contests, including yesterday’s loss to Atlanta. Strider is the wild card here, as he doesn’t go very deep into games. It’s probably best to stay away from the total in this one but lean towards the under (U8, +100).

Cincinnati Reds (+120) vs St. Louis Cardinals (-145)

Reds starter Luis Castillo has been decent on the road this season, with a 2.65 ERA and 0.94 WHIP (walks + hits per inning pitched). He’s also been solid against Atlanta in his career, going 2-1 over four starts with a 2.57 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched. The Cardinals are also coming off an eight-game road trip and looked weary as the Tampa Bay Rays swept them over the last three games. Take a look at the Reds (+120) to pull an upset here, as they’ve won five of the last seven in St. Louis, as well.

The under has hit in five of the last six games between these teams, and in four of Cincinnati’s last five. The Cardinals have scored just six runs in their last three games. Castillo has been dialed in on the road, and St. Louis starter Andre Pallante allowed just one run in four innings in his only start of the season. Lean toward the under (U8, -115).
