MLB Betting: Phillies vs Nationals & Giants vs Pirates – 06/19/2022

There are a bunch of interleague games on Sunday, but there are still some good options in the National League. Two of the early games have the Philadelphia Phillies taking on the Washington Nationals, while the Pittsburgh Pirates host the San Francisco Giants. This betting guide will give some of the best value plays for this pair of games on Sunday.

Philadelphia Phillies (-175) vs Washington Nationals (+145)

For the Nationals, Jackson Tetreault gets his second career start, and the first one was brutal. He gave up seven runs off of three homers in four innings pitched in a 10-4 loss to Atlanta. He’s not getting a break in this one, either, as the Phillies have the league’s fourth-best offense, and are averaging the fourth-most home runs per game. Take the Phillies (-175), and there’s value in the Philadelphia run line, too (-1.5, -115).

It’s been a mediocre year for Zach Eflin, but he’s been brutal on the road this season. He sports a 7.12 ERA and 1.71 WHIP (walks+hits per inning pitched) in 24 innings pitched. Between Eflin and Tetreault, there could be a bundle of runs scored in this one. The over has hit in Eflin’s last four starts and was way over in Tetreault’s only other appearance this season. The over is the play here (O9.5, -115).

San Francisco Giants (-175) vs Pittsburgh Pirates (+145)

Pirates starter Mitch Keller hasn’t had the best season, but he’s been very good over his last three starts. The Pittsburgh hurler has an ERA of 2.76 with 14 strikeouts over 16.1 innings pitched, and he had a fantastic start a week ago against Detroit. Giants starter Alex Cobb has been all over the place, particularly lately. Over his last three starts, he’s got an ERA of 7.79 and a brutal 1.62 WHIP. He also has an ERA of 6.89 on the road this season. This looks like a good spot for the Pirates (+145), and their run line (+1.5, -110) has a lot of value, too.

The over has hit in six of Cobb’s seven starts this season and in three of Keller’s last five. This is kind of a touchy spot since Pittsburgh’s offense has been so unreliable. However, the over has hit in three of the last five for the Pirates, and these pitchers have both been struggling. That means a dose of the bullpens, so take the over in this one (O8.5, -115).
