MLB Betting: Phillies vs Cardinals & Mets vs Braves – 07/11/2022

There are a couple of great pitcher duels set up in the National League on Monday. The Philadelphia Phillies are taking on the St. Louis Cardinals in one, while the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves have another one in a huge NL East tilt. This betting guide gives some tips on the best value plays in those games.

Philadelphia Phillies (-115) vs St. Louis Cardinals (-105)

The Phillies start Aaron Nola against St. Louis’ Miles Mikolas and both have been pretty good this season. Nola has been especially sharp on the road, posting a 2.13 ERA and 0.98 WHIP (walks+hits per inning pitched) with 61 strikeouts in 55 innings pitched away from home. He’s also been good against the Cards in his career with a 5-2 record, 2.19 ERA, and 0.78 WHIP in eight career starts. Mikolas has also been good – with a 2.60 ERA and 0.87 WHIP at home – but lost his last start against Philly on July 1. Nola looks like the pick here. Take the Phillies (-115) to win this one.

The under has landed in four of Nola’s last five starts as well as five of Mikolas’ last six starts. The under is also 4-0 in the last four meetings between these teams and is 7-1 the last eight times the Phillies have come to St. Louis. Philadelphia has gone under the total five games in a row, and the Cardinals have gone under eight games in a row. Play the under (U7.5, -110) again here.

New York Mets (-105) vs Atlanta Braves (-115)

Max Scherzer gets the start for the Mets, and he was stellar his last time out, allowing just two hits and striking out 11 in six innings on the way to a 2-0 New York win over the Cincinnati Reds. On the other side, Atlanta starter Max Fried is going for his 10th win of the season and hasn’t lost a decision since April 13. Fried has a 1.37 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in his last three starts and is 5-2 at home this season. This is going to be a tight one, but take Fried and the Braves (-115) to pull it off on Monday.

Neither of these pitchers has been giving up anything lately. Fried has allowed just three earned runs across his last four starts, and the under has hit in five of his last seven outings. Scherzer has also been dialed in, and the under is 3-0-1 in New York’s last four games against a left-handed starter. This number is very low, but the play is to go below it. Take the under (U7, -105) in what should be a low-scoring contest with these two starters.
