MLB Betting: Phillies vs Cardinals & Marlins vs Mets – 07/08/2022

Everybody is playing in the Major Leagues on Friday, and there are a number of great games in the National League. Two of those are the Philadelphia Phillies facing the St. Louis Cardinals, and the New York Mets hosting Miami Marlins. This betting guide aims to give bettors some of the better value plays for that pair of contests.

Philadelphia Phillies (-130) vs St. Louis Cardinals (+105)

Philadelphia has won five of its last seven, while the Cardinals were just 2-5 on their seven-game road trip. The Phillies also won two of the previous three meetings between these teams this season. St. Louis’ Adam Wainwright has been decent this season but has allowed at least four runs in three of his last four outings, including a 4-0 loss to Philly on July 3. Lean towards the Phillies here (-130).

The total has gone under in the last five Cardinals games, but Wainwright is struggling. The over is 3-1-1 in Wainwright’s last five starts, and Philadelphia starter Zack Wheeler has been much more hittable on the road, as his ERA in away games (4.45) is nearly three runs higher than his ERA at home (1.62). Take the over (O7.5, -115) in this one.

Miami Marlins (+140) vs New York Mets (-165)

New York has won six of the last eight meetings between these teams, including Thursday’s 10-0 drubbing. The Mets have also gone 27-9 in the last 36 games of this series at Citi Field. Mets starter Chris Bassit won his last start against these Marlins on June 25, allowing three runs over seven innings pitched in a 5-3 victory. Take New York (-165) to win here again.

The Mets took the total over all by themselves in the first game of this series, and the over has hit in six straight outings for Marlins starter Pablo Lopez. New York’s offense is clicking, as they’ve scored 18 runs over their last two games. The Mets also racked up 10 runs in Lopez’s last start against them back on June 17. Take the over (O7.5, +100).
