MLB Betting: Phillies vs Braves & Cardinals vs Marlins – 06/28/22

In today’s MLB betting guide, the Atlanta Braves look to hold their lead in the division over the Philadelphia Phillies, while the St. Louis Cardinals have their sights set on the Miami Marlins.

Philadelphia Phillies (-125) vs Atlanta Braves (+105)

The Braves look like a sneaky good option in this game if we look deeper into the pitching matchup. Phillies’ starter and good pitcher Zack Wheeler may have very good stats, but he has been a bit off in his past couple of starts. In his previous outing, he made it to just 4.1 innings, his shortest outing since the second start of the season. In the game before that, despite going seven innings, he struck out just three batters against a lowly Washington Nationals team while issuing one of his three home runs allowed this season. The Phillies have won two in a row but are barely above .500 at home with a record of 19-17.

The Braves are the better team and have the highest slugging percentage in the league. After four consecutive shorter starts allowing four earned runs, Braves’ starting pitcher Charlie Morton has allowed just two runs over his past 14 innings, allowing six hits and issuing no walks while striking out 20 batters. He has gotten hot at the right time as the Phillies are just three games back of the Braves as their three-game series starts. Take the Braves for good value and also consider the under (U7.5, -105).

St. Louis Cardinals (-155) vs Miami Marlins (+125)

The Marlins, a team known to ride a couple of their very good starters, don’t have either one of them on the mound today. Instead, they have Braxton Garrett who has a 4.08 ERA (earned run average) and has allowed 25 hits in 17.2 innings. The Cardinals are not the team you want to have less than strong pitching against as they are ranked fifth in the MLB in runs per game and third in hits.

On the mound for the Cardinals is Dakota Hudson who, despite having two forgettable starts in his past three games, has pitched solid this season. Behind the very strong batting of the Cardinals, he should be able to do just fine even if he allows four-plus runs. The threat of the Marlins is miniscule offensively and the better team should take this one. Take the Cardinals and over (O9, -105).
