MLB Betting: Marlins vs Mets & Braves vs Dodgers – 06/24/22

In today’s MLB betting guide, the New York Mets attempt to rebound against the Miami Marlins’ ace, while the Atlanta Braves host the hot Los Angeles Dodgers.

Miami Marlins (-145) vs New York Mets (+120)

MLB today kicks off with the best team in the National League going against one of the best pitchers in the game on a hot team. The Marlins have Sandy Alcantara on the mound who has pitched 99.1 innings and has an ERA (earned run average) of 1.72 with a WHIP (walks+hits per inning pitched) of 0.95. The Marlins are under .500, but not from the doing of their starter who is 7-2. They come into this matchup having won three in a row after sweeping the Colorado Rockies but lost three of four games to the Mets in the series before that. The one game they did win was behind Alcantara who went eight innings.

The Mets have no slouch on the mound in Taijuan Walker who has a 5-2 record and holds a 2.88 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. They’re worse than Alcantara’s numbers, but most of the league’s are. Alcantara has given up two earned runs in each of his past two games. Before that, he hadn’t given up more than one run in seven starts. He often goes deep into games, so the Mets will have to lock it down defensively on their end as well and hope to score in the late innings. Walker has allowed one run in each of his past two starts, but can’t go as deep into games. With how Alcantara pitches in every game, it’s very difficult to bet against him. Take the Marlins and under (U7.5, -120).

Atlanta Braves (+110) vs Los Angeles Dodgers (-135)

Both the Braves and the Dodgers have been playing well as of late, with a two-game win streak for the Braves and a three-game road win streak for the Dodgers coming into this matchup. Both teams have topped 40 wins on the season and the Dodgers have 23 wins on the road, while the Braves have 23 wins at home.

Julio Urias, the Dodgers starter tonight, has pitched worse than his ERA lets on. His FIP (fielding independent pitching) is 4.36 while his ERA is 2.56. Despite that, his defense has helped him out and the pitching matchup still favours the Dodgers by a healthy margin. Ian Anderson starts on the mound for the Braves as his ERA is 4.35 and his WHIP is significantly higher than Urias’ at 1.39. This is heavily due to his 32 walks issued in 70.1 innings. The Braves will likely score a few runs off the home run as Urias gives up too many of those, but the Dodgers’ bats have also been hot and Anderson doesn’t lock that area down either. Take the Dodgers to continue their win streak and the over to hit (O9.5, +100).
