MLB Betting: Mariners vs Padres & Angels vs Marlins – 07/05/2022

Everybody’s playing in Major League Baseball on Tuesday, and there are a number of great interleague matchups on the slate. Two of them pit the Seattle Mariners against the San Diego Padres along with the Los Angeles Angels facing the Miami Marlins. This betting guide will give some insight into the best value plays for those two games.

Seattle Mariners (+110) vs San Diego Padres (-135)

Starter Mike Clevinger has been dinged up this season, but he’s rocking and rolling for the Padres when he’s pitched. He hasn’t allowed more than two runs in any of his seven appearances and gave up only one hit and one walk in his last appearance. Logan Gilbert has been equally impressive for the Mariners, as he’s sitting 9-3 this season with a 2.66 ERA. He’s been a little shaky in his last three starts, posting a 4.58 ERA and 1.36 WHIP (walks+hits per inning pitched). Take the Padres (-135) in this one.

These pitchers have been very sharp, but these teams have found ways to score runs against each other. The total has gone over in each of their last four meetings and their last six meetings in San Diego. Seattle has also had some high-scoring interleague games against the National League West, with the over hitting in the Mariners’ last seven against that division. This is a very low total in this one, so take the over (O7, -115) as some runs should be scored late.

Los Angeles Angels (+120) vs Miami Marlins (-145)

Miami starter Sandy Alcantara is in the middle of a heck of a season. His 1.95 ERA is second-best in the National League, and he’s pitched at last seven innings in his last 10 starts. He’s also been lights out at home, going 4-2 with a 1.80 ERA and sizzling 0.87 WHIP across 60 innings. Los Angeles starter Noah Syndergaard has been improving lately but has been brutal on the road, going 1-4 with a 6.53 ERA. It’s too difficult to fade Alcantara right now, so take the Marlins (-145).

These teams played two games earlier this season, and the total went under both times. The under is also 5-2-1 in Alcantara’s last eight starts and in each of Syndergaard’s last four starts. This game should be low-scoring, and it should be close, but this is a pretty low total. It might be best to stay away from betting the total in this one, but lean towards the under (U7, -105).
