MLB Betting: Giants vs Padres & Cubs vs Dodgers – 07/10/2022

The National League West has some good things happening in Southern California today. The San Diego Padres host the San Francisco Giants in a divisional clash, while the Los Angeles Dodgers continue their great series against the Chicago Cubs. This betting guide offers some of the better value plays in that pair of West Coast contests.

San Francisco Giants (+100) vs San Diego Padres (-120)

On Saturday, San Francisco picked up its first victory against San Diego since April 13 after dropping the previous five meetings. The Giants have struggled against lefties lately, going 0-4 in their last four road games against a left-handed starter. San Francisco starter Alex Wood has also been knocked around lately, giving up 11 runs over his last 12 innings pitched. Take the Padres (-120) in this one.

The total has gone over six times in the last eight games in San Diego, and in 16 of the last 24 meetings overall. Wood’s struggles are well known, but San Diego starter MacKenzie Gore has also had some rough outings lately. This is a pretty low total for a couple of shaky starters, so lean towards the over (O7.5, -115) in this one.

Chicago Cubs (+220) vs Los Angeles Dodgers (-275)

Julio Urias has been spectacular for the Dodgers lately, winning his last four starts while allowing more than one earned run just once over that stretch. He also sports a 2.45 ERA and 0.97 WHIP (walks+hits per innings pitched) at home. The Cubs have lost all three games in this current series, but they’ve been scrappy. They got to Clayton Kershaw a bit on Saturday before a late Dodgers comeback in L.A.’s 4-2 victory. The money lines are too steep, so lean toward the Cubs run line (+2.5, -135) for another close game.

The over hasn’t hit in this season series since May 7, when the teams played a doubleheader. The under is 5-1-3 in Urias’ last nine starts – and the total went under in his lone start against the Cubs this season. None of the first three games of this current series have gone over, and this looks like it could be another low-scoring affair. Go with the under (U8.5, -115) in this contest.
