MLB Betting: Cubs vs Pirates & Rockies vs Marlins – 06/21/2022

There are a lot of games to choose from on Tuesday in Major League Baseball. The Pittsburgh Pirates host the Chicago Cubs, and the Colorado Rockies open a series with the Miami Marlins. This betting guide will help to find some of the better plays for that pair of games.

Chicago Cubs (+135) vs Pittsburgh Pirates (-160)

Pittsburgh starter Roasny Contreras was off to a great start but has come down to earth a little bit, giving up three earned runs in each of his last two starts. He’s been great at home, however. He’s thrown 13.2 scoreless innings at PNC Park, striking out 18. The Cubs have dropped 12 of their last 14 and have been outscored 18-1 in their last two games. Lean towards the Pirates (-160) here.

Chicago starter Matt Swarmer has been brutal in his last three starts, going 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA. He was also awful in his only start at home, giving up six runs in five innings. However, the under has hit in all three of his starts because the Cubs can’t score runs. Chicago has scored more than one run just once over the last four games, and the under has hit in three of the Cubs’ last five. Take the under (U9, -115).

Colorado Rockies (+110) vs Miami Marlins (-135)

Miami pitcher Daniel Castano has bounced up and down from the minors this season, posting just four appearances. He was great in his only other start, however, tossing 6.2 shutout innings in a 3-1 loss to the Phillies last week. Colorado comes in hot after sweeping three games from the Padres where they scored a combined 23 runs. The Rockies have taken two of the three games between the teams this season, including a 7-1 win where today’s starter Ryan Feltner allowed one run on four hits over seven sharp innings. Take the Rockies (+110) for the minor upset here.

The under has landed just one time in Feltner’s last four starts – but that was his start against Miami. Castano hasn’t given up a run in his limited action this season, but the over has landed in three of his four appearances. Feltner has been shaky in his last two starts, allowing seven runs over nine innings. The total has gone over in six of the last seven between these teams, so lean towards the over here once again (O8, -110).
