MLB Betting: Cubs vs Padres & Mariners vs Twins – 06/13/22

In today’s MLB betting guide, the San Diego Padres visit the struggling Chicago Cubs, while the Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins both look to bounce back from losses as they match up.

Chicago Cubs (+110) vs San Diego Padres (-135)

This matchup between the Cubs and Padres looks to be more one-sided than the betting odds give off, which means it’s a better option to go with the favourite. The Padres have gone 7-3 in their past 10, while the Cubs have lost six games in a row and went 3-7 over their past 10 games. These teams also have reverse records home and away as the Cubs are a terrible 11-20 at home, while the Padres are 20-11 on the road. The Padres are also just the better team with 14 more wins on the season than the Cubs and Chicago is also coming off a game where they were dominated.

The Padres don’t necessarily have the advantage in pitching, but they do give their pitchers a ton of help and are where they are in the standings because of their defensive game. Yu Darvish, the Padres starter, and Jordan Steel, who’s starting on the mound for the Cubs, have nearly the exact same FIP (fielding independent pitching) but Steele’s ERA (earned run average) is actually 4.79. The big bats of the Padres have been bringing in runs at a good rate recently as well. Take the Padres in this game as well as the over (O8.5, -115).

Seattle Mariners (-125) vs Minnesota Twins (+105)

Both the Mariners and the Twins will be looking to get back on the right track in this game as they each lost their previous outing. Fortunately for us betters, the Twins are somehow the underdogs despite having the much better record, arguably the better pitcher on the mound today, and without a doubt the better batting order. Led by Byron Buxton, the offense of the Twins has been hammering away and not making it very fun for opposing pitchers.

Chris Flexen is the expected starter for the Mariners and, like Chris Archer who is on the mound for the Twins, both have pitched significantly worse than their ERAs show. Archer gives up too many walks, while Flexen has been the victim of many home runs this season. This gives confidence to Buxton and the big bats of the Twins to take advantage of this early in the game as he has six home runs in the past two weeks. Take the Twins as a great underdog option and the over (O8.5, -110).
