MLB Betting: Brewers vs Phillies & Guardians vs Athletics – 06/09/22

In today’s MLB betting guide, the Philadelphia Phillies look to stay hot against the Milwaukee Brewers, while the Oakland Athletics look for any spark against the Cleveland Guardians.

Milwaukee Brewers (-165) vs Philadelphia Phillies (+140)

The Brewers and Phillies game is the perfect storm to see an upset as the Brewers have lost five games in a row and the Phillies have won six in a row. Led by Bryce Harper, Bryson Scott, and Kyle Schwarber on offense, even mediocre pitching would be acceptable since they’ve combined for nine home runs over the last week.

The pitching matchup is interesting. On the exterior, it looks like Corbin Burnes is the superior pitcher and the Brewers are known for their pitching, but his numbers are a lot closer to Zach Eflin than they seem. Burnes has been helped out by his defense and should have an ERA (earned run average) north of 3.00, but sits at just 2.50. His strikeout rate is spectacular regardless, though. Eflin’s FIP (fielding independent pitching) is just above 3.00 but his ERA is 3.88, meaning he hasn’t gotten the help Burnes has and the pitching is very even. Take the Phillies since they are red hot while betting the over (O7.5, +100).

Cleveland Guardians (-165) vs Oakland Athletics (+140)

Things continue to look down for the Athletics who have lost eight games in a row coming into their matchup with the Guardians who have played well and brought their record to .500. The Athletics are one of the bottom feeders of the MLB and the Guardians have the upper hand in every category this season.

The batting of the Athletics has had a minimal positive impact on games, while the Guardians have been led by Jose Ramirez and Andres Gimenez. Oakland’s starter James Kaprielian has not had a good season in which he has an ERA north of 6.00 and has given up seven home runs in 32.2 innings. On the mound for the Guardians is Konno Pilkington, who has pitched just 17 innings this season in his rookie campaign. He has been a magician at getting out of innings with minimal damage considering his FIP is even better than his ERA, he has given up zero home runs, and has walked 10 batters already. It may come back and start to hurt him, but for now, Pilkington is going strong and the Athletics are struggling on all fronts. Take the Guardians and over (O8.5, -120).
