MLB Betting: Brewers vs Cardinals & Yankees vs Astros – 06/23/22

In today’s MLB betting guide, the Milwaukee Brewers and the St. Louis Cardinals match up to see who takes first in the division, while the league’s best New York Yankees take on the high-powered Houston Astros.

Milwaukee Brewers (-105) vs St. Louis Cardinals (-115)

The two teams battling it out for first place in the NL Central meet today as the first-place Cardinals face the second-place Brewers. It is the fourth and final game of the series with the Cardinals holding the 2-1 advantage after winning two in a row. Both teams are 6-4 in their past 10 games while neither holds the advantage within their division or at home or away.

As for the pitching matchup, the Brewers have rookie Jason Alexander on the mound who has had a solid start to his career holding a 2.42 ERA (earned run average) over four starts and has yet to give up a home run. The Cardinals have Dakota Hudson on the mound who too has pitched well for the team. He also gives up minimal home runs as it has only happened four times in over 70 innings. The issue here is that Hudson has allowed eight earned runs in his past 12 innings of work after giving up just two in his 18.2 innings prior. The power and runs being driven in by the Brewers bats right now isn’t an ideal matchup for Hudson to get back on track, but the bats of the Cardinals are equally dangerous as of late and much better overall. Go with the experience and first-place Cardinals in this one to extend their win streak as the over (O9.5, -105) also hits.

New York Yankees (-130) vs Houston Astros (+105)

It’s another big-time matchup for the Yankees as they’ve continued to run through any opponent set in front of them. After winning the past three series against the Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays twice, they are set to face second-place Astros. They will be a test for the Yankees as the Astros come into this series having won three in a row and are a strong 23-14 on the road. Unfortunately for them, the Yankees are nearly unstoppable at home with a record of 29-7.

It’s hard to put your money against the Yankees, as they win so often and are 51-18. Their starter today is Jameson Taillon who holds an 8-1 record, 2.70 ERA, and 1.06 WHIP (walks+hits per inning pitched) and pitched very well in his last outing vs the Blue Jays. Framber Valdez has done very well for the Astros as well with a 2.78 ERA and 1.14 WHIP, but unlike Taillon, Valdez has been shaky in his past three starts and has given up two-plus runs in each while issuing six walks and two home runs. Aaron Judge is the man to watch to continue that stretch for Valdez, as Judge has been lights-out all season. We have to go with the better team in this one with the Yankees while their pitcher is also playing better. As the teams are first and third in runs allowed this season, the under (U8.5, -115) is also the better play.
