MLB Betting: Braves vs Diamondbacks & Padres vs Cardinals – 06/01/2022

Another full slate of games on the MLB slate on Wednesday, and that means lots of options for bettors. This betting guide will offer some of the top value options for a pair of National League games. The Atlanta Braves and Arizona Diamondbacks wrap up a three-game series, while the St. Louis Cardinals look for a three-game sweep of the San Diego Padres.

Atlanta Braves (-155) vs Arizona Diamondbacks (+125)

The Diamondbacks won the first two games of this series, and now Arizona goes for the sweep in a game that features a pair of great pitchers. Madison Bumgarner takes the hill for Arizona, while Kyle Wright is starting for Atlanta. The Braves have won their last five against a left-handed starter, but Bumgarner’s still no ordinary lefty. He’s 8-3 with a 2.67 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP against the Braves in his career. That gives the D’Backs run line (+1.5, -120) a lot of value, and their money line (+125) is a decent play, too.

In Wright’s nine starts this season, the total has gone over seven runs only twice. The Diamondbacks have gone under in four of their last five, but Bumgarner has given up at least four runs in his last two starts. This number still seems a bit high for a pair of pitchers with ERAs below 3.50, so lean toward the under on this one (U9, -105).

San Diego Padres (-135) vs St. Louis Cardinals (+110)

There’s another quality pitching matchup on tap between the Padres and Cardinals, with Yu Darvish starting for San Diego and Dakota Hudson going for St. Louis. Darvish has been pretty good against the Cards in his career, going 2-2 over seven starts with a 2.64 ERA and 0.99 WHIP. San Diego has lost the last five meetings between these teams, but Darvish gives them a chance in what should be a close game. Lean toward the Padres money line (-135), as they should avoid the sweep.

Playing the under between these teams in the previous two games went 1-0-1, and it looks like another good play here. Darvish has allowed a total of two runs over his last two starts, while Hudson has allowed just four runs over his last three starts combined. Look for the under to land again in Wednesday’s contest, as there is another decent number to play (U8, -110).
