MLB Betting; Athletics vs Mariners & White Sox vs Giants – 07/03/2022

There’s a good mix of interleague games sprinkled into Sunday’s contests, but there are also some great divisional matchups. This betting guide will look at both, investigating the American League West matchup between the Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners as well as the interleague tilt between the Chicago White Sox and San Francisco Giants.

Oakland Athletics (+125) vs Seattle Mariners (-155)

The last time Frankie Montas started for Oakland against Seattle, he flirted with a no-hitter, and then the Mariners took a 2-1 win. He has a 2.37 ERA over his last three starts but took the loss in two of those games. Mariners starter Robbie Ray has been stellar lately posting a 0.90 ERA and 0.70 WHIP (walks+hits per inning pitched) over his last 20 innings pitched. Ray has also been good at home (2.45 ERA and 0.84 WHIP), so take the Mariners (-155) to control this one.

The under has hit in three of Ray’s last four, and he hasn’t given up more than one run in any of those starts. He also completed at least seven innings in three of his starts across that span. Montas might not get a no-hitter, but he still should keep Seattle from lighting up the scoreboard. This is a pretty low total, but these teams haven’t totaled four runs in either of the first two games of this series and now two sizzling pitchers are going. Lean toward the under (U7, -120) in this contest.

Chicago White Sox (+100) vs San Francisco Giants (-115)

The White Sox have won the first two games of this series, including Saturday’s 5-3 victory. San Francisco’s John Brebbia is making just his second start of the season, but he sports a 2.70 ERA in his 33.1 innings pitched this season. The Sox start Lucas Giolito, who has been knocked around to the tune of a 9.56 ERA and a 1.81 WHIP in his last three starts. He also has an ERA over 5.00 on the road, making the Giants (-115) the pick in this one.

The over is 4-1-1 in the last six meetings between these teams, and it went over on Saturday. The total has gone over in Giolito’s last four starts against a team with a winning record, as well. With his recent woes and likely some heavy work from both bullpens, the over (O8, -115) is the play here on Sunday.
