MLB Betting: Athletics vs Mariners & Astros vs Mets – 06/21/22

In today’s MLB betting guide, two bottom feeders in the Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners match up, while a high-powered game between the Houston Astros and New York Mets is also set to go.

Oakland Athletics (+125) vs Seattle Mariners (-150)

This will not be a pitching matchup as both of the starters for the Athletics and the Mariners have less than ideal numbers. They may surprise tonight as neither team has very good batting either. The Athletics have James Kaprielian on the mound who has been hammered this season. He’s given up 10 home runs and has a very high WHIP (walks+hits per inning pitched), while his ERA (earned runs average) is 6.31 in just 41.1 innings. He has a record of 0-4, while the Athletics are far and above the worst team at home with a record of 8-25.

The Mariners have a little more hope in their starter, Marco Gonzalez, as he has actually only given up more than two runs in an outing three times in 13 starts. He has gotten very fortunate with the play of his defense behind him as his FIP (fielding independent pitching) is 5.41 but his ERA is 3.41. The Mariners are a little better on the road with a record of 14-21 but have lost three in a row coming into this game after the Los Angeles Angels dominated them. Both teams are 3-7 in their past 10 games but with the home record and pitcher for the Athletics, you have to put your money on Seattle and under (U8, -105).

Houston Astros (-125) vs New York Mets (+105)

A more highly entertaining game is this one between the Astros and the Mets as two teams with 40-plus wins face off. The Mets have been the more dominant team as of late with a 7-3 record in the past 10 games despite the bats not being where they’ve been most of the season. Starting for the Mets is Trevor Williams who’s split time between the bullpen and as a starter. In his five starts, he’s given up just seven runs and only had one bad outing. The team shouldn’t expect more than five innings from him, but he should provide them with a chance to win.

As for Houston’s starting pitcher Jose Urquidy, he’s given up 15 runs in 21 innings over his past four starts and has declined significantly from his early-season performance. He doesn’t strike out a ton of batters and has allowed 12 home runs in 61.1 innings. As the Astros are just 5-5 in their past 10 and have a difficult matchup against the strong Mets, they will lose this one and the over (O9, -105) will hit.
