MLB Betting: Athletics vs Mariners & Angels vs Astros – 07/02/2022

There are 17 games on the slate in Major League Baseball on Saturday, and there are a couple of great American League West games that are a part of it. The Oakland A’s take on the Seattle Mariners, while the Houston Astros host the Los Angeles Angels. This betting guide will give the best value plays for both of those contests.

Oakland Athletics (+155) vs Seattle Mariners (-190)

Mariners starter George Kirby got hammered by the Baltimore Orioles in his last start, but he threw six shutout innings in a 9-0 Seattle win over Oakland on June 22. Paul Blackburn took the loss in that game, and he gave up seven runs on 10 hits in just four innings of work. He starts again against the Mariners on Saturday. Take Seattle (-190) in this one, and get some real value on the Mariners run line (-1.5, +100) as Seattle’s won four in a row and Oakland’s lost three straight.

The over is 5-2 in the last seven meetings between these teams, including three of the last four. Blackburn has given up 23 hits and 11 earned runs in his last 14.1 innings pitched, and the total has gone over in eight of Kirby’s 10 starts this season. This number seems way too low, so play the over to hit once again (O7.5, -115) between these two teams.

Los Angeles Angels (+115) vs Houston Astros (-140)

Los Angeles starter Patrick Sandoval has an ERA of 2.12 over his last three starts, but he’s been skating on thin ice. His 1.53 WHIP (walks+hits per inning pitched) over that span means he’s getting himself into trouble. On the other side is Jose Urquidy for Houston, who has been awesome at home. His home ERA of 2.51 is nearly two runs better than his overall ERA (4.36), and he’s given up two runs or less in eight of his last 10 starts. Houston rocked the Angels on Friday, so take the Astros (-140) to win again.

The last four games between these teams have been blowouts, with the total going over in three of those four games. The over is 16-6 in the last 22 meetings between these teams in Houston. Urquidy has been sharp lately, but he usually gets run support. The over is 3-1-1 in his last five starts, and the Astros have been on a roll. Take the over (O8.5, -115) to hit in this one.
