MLB Betting: Astros vs White Sox & Dodgers vs Guardians – 06/17/22

In today’s MLB betting guide, the Houston Astros and Chicago White Sox go head to head, while the Cleveland Guardians look to stay hot against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Houston Astros (-165) vs Chicago White Sox (+140)

This matchup between the Astros and the White Sox should prove to be very close despite Houston holding the significantly better record. The Astros have won two in a row and are 5-5 in their last 10, while the White Sox have won three games in a row and are 6-4 over their past 10 games. Both teams are also generally good either home or away as the Astros are 16-10 in their stadium, while the White Sox have a much better record on the road than at home at 17-14.

It will be a pitching matchup as Astros’ Framber Valdez is set to oppose Lucas Giolito of the White Sox. Both starters’ numbers have been elevated by the defensive play of their teams, but that shouldn’t take too much away from the skill they possess. Valdez allows a low number of hits and home runs but can work on his walk rate since he isn’t a big strikeout pitcher. Giolito is great at striking out batters but has had big trouble with home runs this season. He has allowed five home runs over his past three starts and two of the three have been starts to forget. Take the Astros for the reason of Giolito’s inconsistency as well as the over (O8, -105) since it’s set pretty low.

Los Angeles Dodgers (-275) vs Cleveland Guardians (+220)

The Guardians have been coming on strong of late and have a starting pitcher who’s turning his season around on the mound today. Zach Plesac, despite owning a 4.70 ERA (earned run average) and giving up nine home runs on the season, has had three good outings and hasn’t walked one batter over that span. He has generally been very good this season at limiting the walks but doesn’t strike out a ton of batters either so he has had to rely on his defense. The Guardians have won four games in a row and are coming off a sweep of the Colorado Rockies. Cleveland is also 8-2 in its previous 10 games and has pulled itself five games over .500 behind consistent star Jose Ramirez.

The Dodgers remain one of the league’s powerhouses this season as they have 39 wins on the season and are ranked fourth in the MLB. Clayton Kershaw is having another stellar season with just a 2.12 ERA and 0.79 WHIP (walks+hits per inning pitched) but the Dodgers have been less than average over their past 10 games and have fallen out of the division lead. They have won two games in a row but have scored just 10 runs over their last five games. The Guardians look like a good underdog in this one as the Dodgers are heavily favoured. Take the Guardians and under (U8, -110).
