MLB Betting: Astros vs Angels & Athletics vs Rangers – 07/13/2022

This is a big day for the American League West. The Houston Astros face off against the Los Angeles Angles, while the Texas Rangers host the Oakland Athletics. This betting guide will deliver some insight as to the best value plays for both of these games based on recent trends occurring amongst these divisional rivals.

Houston Astros (+100) vs Los Angeles Angels (-120)

Reigning AL MVP Shohei Ohtani has been one of the lone bright spots for the Angeles lately, going 3-0 over his last three starts while not giving up a run and striking out 34 in his last 20.2 innings pitched. The Angels have lost eight of their last 10, but the two wins over that stretch are both when Ohtani starts. Houston has also won six of the last eight meetings, including the last four between these teams. Cristian Javier gets the start for Houston, and he’s got a 2.84 ERA in his last three starts. Lean toward Houston (+100) here.

The total has gone over in Javier’s last two starts, including a start against the Angels on July 1. The over has also hit in five of the last seven meetings between these teams. The Astros have also done well against right-handed starters lately, as the over has hit in each of the last six games against righty starters. Even with Ohtani’s recent stellar play, this is a low number. Take the over (O7, -110).

Oakland Athletics (+165) vs Texas Rangers (-200)

Texas has won six of the nine meetings between these teams this season, but Oakland has won two of the last three. Oakland starter Paul Blackburn has been awesome on the road this season, going 5-0 with a 1.28 ERA and 1.03 WHIP (walks+hits per inning pitched) away from home on the way to getting picked for the All-Star Game. Lean towards the Athletics (+165) in this one, with great value on the A’s run line (+1.5, -135).

The total has gone over in the last five games of this series, and 39 runs have been scored in the last two games combined. The over has also hit in the last four meetings in Texas, as well. Runs have been no problem for these teams, and this total seems pretty low. Take the over (O7.5, +100) to land once again in this one.
