CFL Betting: Week 2 MTL vs TOR & WIN vs OTT – 06/16/22

In this week’s CFL action, eight teams go head-to-head in Week 2 of the regular season. The Montreal Alouettes hope to put their opening-season loss against the Calgary Stampeders behind them when they take on the Toronto Argonauts. Meanwhile, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers take on the 0-1 Ottawa Redblacks. This is the place to find everything, including team win odds, the over/under, and point spreads.

Moneyline: Argonauts @ -105

The Alouettes are coming off a 30-27 loss, but the pain suffered doesn’t finish with the result on the scoreboard. Letting their lead slip through their fingers was one thing, but losing running back William Stanback for at least six games will hurt the Als’ chances significantly. This means the team will rely heavily on Vernon Adams Jr. to come up big and improve upon his accuracy and connections.

The Argonauts open up their season with a home game and are slight favourites to win tonight. They’ll need to play their rushing game well enough to penetrate Montreal’s sturdy defense, and that may fall on 35-year-old Andrew Harris. Toronto added some of the biggest names in free agency, so their team should be one of the top-tier clubs. They’ll hope to avoid a repetition of last year’s collapse after going 9-5 and suffering a second-half collapse.

Jeshrun Antwi: Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+225)

Following the injury to Stanback, Jeshrun Antwi stepped in and immediately connected with a 70-yard rush. In just one game, he put up nearly 100 rushing yards on seven carries. The 24-year-old appeared in 14 games last season, ending his year with 26 carries and 176 rushing yards. Montreal will rely on him to carry the brunt of the load going forward.

This puts him in an excellent position to score a touchdown, should Adams Jr. figure out a way around Toronto’s defense. He’s an exceptional quarterback when coming up with big plays, but he’ll need to figure out his consistency issues. A revitalized Antwi could be the solution to that problem, and he’ll be looking for connections all night.

Moneyline: Redblacks @ +100

In Week 1, the Bluebombers got the best of the Redblacks, edging them 19-17 in a close affair. In terms of matchups, the Redblacks were the superior team, both offensively and defensively. They earned more rushing and passing yards, forced more fumbles and passing play interceptions, but failed to capitalize on their chances. Head coach Paul LaPolice will aim to correct some of their shortcomings, and we can expect a better result for Ottawa in their rematch against Winnipeg.
