CFL Betting: Edmonton Elks vs Montreal Alouettes – 07/14/22

In tonight’s CFL action, the Edmonton Elks visit the Montreal Alouettes as both teams look for a second win this year. The Elks sit in last place of a highly competitive West Division, as all teams ahead of them have combined for two losses, scoring above 100 points and allowing under 100 points. The Alouettes can jump to first place in the East Division with a victory, with the only other team to secure a win in their division is the Toronto Argonauts.

Moneyline: Alouettes @ -340

The Alouettes enter tonight’s contest as eight-point favourites and are in a good position to earn their second win of the season. After going 1-3 to start the year, Montreal fired their head coach and defensive coordinator. Verne Adams Jr. and Trevor Harris have struggled to maintain the offense with Tre Ford still sidelined, and the absences of running backs William Stanback and James Wilder Jr. haven’t helped either. The good news is they take on a struggling defense in Edmonton, and this could be a prime opportunity for them to shine.

It hasn’t been an exciting year for Edmonton to say the least. After being blown out in Week 1 by the BC Lions, they’ve won just once and have since been dismantled by the Calgary Stampeders last week. Their defense allows the most points among any team in the league, and their offense hasn’t shown much sign of life. The Elks are outclassed at both ends of the field, and while they may keep the score close, their odds of walking away with a win are slim to none.

Home Team Total Points: Over 29.5 @ -108

Montreal has an offense capable of putting up some points when they have the room and time to execute their plays properly. In Week 1, they put up 27 points on the board against the 4-0 Calgary Stampeders, a team that has only allowed 86 points all season. The Alouettes have the defensive structure to limit the opposition to as little time as possible on the field, giving Adams Jr. and Harris ample playing time. Coming off a bye week, we expect the Alouettes to be charged and ready to go in front of their home crowd.

Touchdown Scorers Anytime: Eugene Lewis @ +105

Eugene Lewis is one of the top receivers in the league this season and is proving his worth as one of the best in recent memory for the Alouettes. Five years ago, he was on a practice squad and considered leaving the game but is now enjoying the success of someone willing to put in the work. After going without a touchdown in his first four games this season, expect Lewis to tear up the field and blaze through an Elks defense with no answers.
